Dr Amy Farley pregnancy Acupuncturist

Hi there, I’m Amy Farley

I’m an AHPRA registered Acupuncturist and Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner. Having two decades of experience working with women through pregnancy, I find myself in the world of fertility, pregnancy and postpartum… and I love every minute of it.

As a mother myself- I know how important self care is in helping you become a happy mum. I want to see you fill your cup so that you’re able to look after everyone in your home without being burnt out.

My Special Interests

  • I love providing a space where women can come in during any point of their pregnancy to fill their cup up again. Being pregnant isn’t always easy, so I want to try alleviate some of the issues that can crop up during this time. We can address physical or the emotional aspects of pregnancy- it’s a safe space I hold for women and I genuinely love this work.

  • Having had my own personal fertility battles and using acupuncture to see me into motherhood (three times) means that I am particularly passionate about this field.

I feel incredibly blessed to go through the fertility journey with the women who come to see me, regardless of whether they are using IVF or trying to conceive naturally..

  • Whilst coming in for acupuncture postpartum can be a bit of a challenge, I love helping women plan for their postpartum recovery using tools they have at home. Ask me when my next workshop is.

  • Mental health and wellbeing is so important to me. Having been the support person for my teenage daughter who struggled with C-PTSD, OCD, ADHD, self harm and more- I have absolute understanding and empathy for those who are struggling.

Being the support person has come with it’s own challenges for maintaining my own mental health, so I am very passionate about encouraging others to also make sure they find ways to nurture their own heart while giving out to others.

I feel acupuncture is a great tool to add to the self care routine, but I am also a big advocate of finding additional ways to navigate these heavy emotions and experiences.

  • If you are somewhere outside of that 26 - 32 day menstrual cycle- some hormone regulation might be helpful. There’s a natural ebb and flow to our cycle, where at some points we feel more energetic, and some we naturally withdraw. Learning about these times will help to shift how you live your life and look after your body.

My Story

At 16 years of age, my PCOS was out of control and I was told the likelihood of me ever falling pregnant naturally was incredibly unlikely. On the contraceptive pill I went, until after a few years of feeling miserable and not quite myself- I started leaning towards Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for support.

The first change that happened- was I had a regular cycle… an actual 28 day cycle. I had gone up to two years with no bleed whatsoever after being on the pill. How could little tiny needles in random spots on my body create this change?

So I began my studies in TCM and I haven’t looked back. Every pregnancy I’ve had, came at a time where I’ve been having regular acupuncture and herbs. I know first hand the struggle of fertility but also what it feels like to get to the other side.

My Priorities

SELF CARE

A happy mother is one that fills her cup as a matter of priority. No one wants to feel grumpy or frustrated, so regulating your nervous system through practices of self care is essential for a happy home.

FOOD AS MEDICINE

We eat at least 3 times a day, so when you put something in your mouth it will either help you or harm you. It’s okay to be naughty sometimes, but make proper nourishment with whole foods your priority. Slow down and enjoy the process of making food that nurtures your body and those of your loved ones. It’s an act of mindfulness and care.

FIND THE JOY

The joy in each day comes from the simple things in life. Laughter with a friend, beautiful flowers, your favourite song playing, watching your little one chase bugs outside, eating your favourite chocolate, going to the beach to listen to the waves, picking veges out of the garden you grew. Surround yourself with good people. Fill your life with happy moments that make you smile.

Book yourself some self care in the form of acupuncture.
